Solebay SEND Flexi Craft Workshop

Apr 27th

Pupils in Solebay’s Flexible Provision recently took part in a vibrant, hands-on workshop that turned the classroom into a design studio.

With a focus on tailored learning, students were given the freedom to choose their own project: designing and crafting either a bespoke handbag or a decorative photo frame. This initiative was more than just an art lesson—it was a carefully designed opportunity to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world skills.

While the end results were impressive, the true success lay in the journey of creation. The project focused on three key areas of development:

Independence: Students managed their own workstations, making critical design decisions and following personalised timetables to see their projects through from start to finish.

Fine Motor Skills: From intricate stitching and fabric cutting to the precise placement of embellishments, the workshop provided a fantastic workout for hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

Creativity: No two items looked the same! Our pupils expressed their unique personalities through bold color choices, varied textures, and innovative structural designs.

The beauty of our flexible provision is the ability to adapt to the individual. By providing a curriculum that steps outside the traditional “one size fits all” model, we allow students to find their strengths in practical, engaging ways.
