From Spain to Solebay
Joining Solebay Primary Academy last year, Rosa has been a Spanish teacher at the London school for just over a year. Having lived in Spain she was excited to join Paradigm Trust through the Spanish Visiting Programme, and she is a real asset to the pupils who are able to learn directly from someone whose native language is Spanish. She explains more about her role and how she has found her first year as part of Paradigm Trust.
I’ve been part of Paradigm Trust for just over a year now and I have never felt more motivated and empowered to teach! Moving to the UK was a huge leap of faith for me but I feel so lucky that I have found a role in a school with such a brilliant atmosphere. The Trust’s commitment to teaching foreign languages was what initially drew me to the role at Solebay and is testament to their value of excellence. I feel honoured to be working in an environment where language teachers are equipped and supported to make a real difference in the lives of children.
From day one I was given the opportunity to create a tailor-made bilingual project for the pupils. Not only was this an exciting challenge but the creation of my project, a website with interactive resources, has allowed my students to take languages outside the classroom. In fact, during the pandemic this resource became a great help as a remote learning tool which enabled our pupils to access lessons, videos, live worksheets and quizzes all at the click of a button. None of this would have been possible without the support of Solebay and the Trust.
Overall, I simply feel honoured to be surrounded by so many positive and proactive people while at work. Moving from another country can be a daunting prospect but the community at Solebay is outstanding and there are always people willing to support you in anything you need. The school really values the importance of teaching foreign languages and encourages the pupils to participate and engage with learning Spanish. To see the progress my pupils have made over the past year, watching them improve and enjoy their lessons makes me feel so lucky.
If you’re thinking about joining the Trust through the Visiting Programme, I couldn’t praise it more! It was the best decision of my life and I can’t wait to progress my career at Solebay.
