The Special Education Unit (SEU) at Piper’s Vale Primary Academy celebrates the excellent provision we provide to those young learners who have moderate special educational needs. Our provision enables children to build a learning platform to support and develop through their educational journey. We allow our learners from reception to year 2 to explore, focus and flourish in a specialist, supportive environment.

Staff have experience of using a variety of individualised communication approaches from a Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) through to electronic talkpads. Many pupils who attend have a diagnosis of ASD (Autism spectrum disorder). We embed intensive interaction, object exchange and attention autism into our curriculum, strengthening the child’s level of success within the school community.

Speech and language therapists work with our children, staff and parents/carers. We are proud of our purpose built unit which provides specialist functionality both outside and inside, to create a rich learning environment for our children.
