Our approach to mathematics from Early Years to Key Stage 3 is based on a mastery approach.

Mastery maths is an approach developed in Singapore and Shanghai where the whole class moves through topics at broadly the same pace. Each topic is studied in depth and the teacher does not move to the next stage until all children demonstrate that they have a secure understanding of mathematical concepts. Please see here for more details on mastery.

We base our Early Years maths provision on the Maths Mastery programme. In Key Stages 1 and 2 we use the Maths Mastery programme at our London schools and the Maths No Problem programme in our Ipswich schools.

The Key Stage 3 curriculum has been developed from the Rising Stars PUMA scheme of work and uses a full mastery approach. We have planned the curriculum to ensure continuity from our Key Stage 1-2 programme while recognising that pupils from other feeder schools may not have experienced a mastery approach to learning maths.
